Inner balance
❀ Today we hear a lot talking about balance between the masculine and the feminine energy.
When actually the imbalance happens?
An imbalance occurs when ‘prana’ (or ‘Qi’ in Chinese medicine) – that is the life force – does not flow harmoniously along the energy pathways of our body.
What does this energy relate to when we speak of flowing harmoniously? Nature and her laws.
Nature is made up of opposing forces that attract one another, of repeating cycles, of changes and transformations. There is no light that does not turn into shadow and vice versa; there is no summer without winter; there is no flower without a seed having caused the plant on which it blooms to grow.
❀ The seed and the flower, the masculine and feminine principles in perfect balance… in Nature… In human beings, these principles coexist and pursue one another in a daily quest for alignment throughout our entire existence. When we come to a standstill, there is imbalance. When we lose our presence in everything we do, there is disharmony.
❀ This is precisely what is happening in modern society: we are forgetting our very existence as living beings who, from the moment of birth, embody the experience of Mother Nature. We are born with the memory of that cyclical nature in which the sun rises after every night, and the seed dies in the earth to make way for the tree. We lose this memory the moment we plunge into the grind of ‘doing’ rather than ‘being’.
❀ The risk is that feminine energy – which lies at the heart of creation – is fragmented, buried and cast aside because there is too much to do, emails to send, houses to clean, careers to pursue… Add to this the legacy of ancient ways of thinking, where displaying one’s femininity was considered shameful, weak, of secondary importance… ‘women’s issues’, as some have put it. And men, the male gender, are either too busy or too frightened in the face of women who are increasingly forgetting their own nature.
So how can we restore balance?
Both men and women should return to remembering the Goddess, the archetype of Mother Earth in her roles of creation and nurturing. Women must see themselves in their purest sensuality, far removed from being associated solely with the ability to attract the opposite sex. It is a primordial sensuality, one that arises spontaneously from the depths of one’s authentic self and is transformed into art, dance, music and a life imbued with unconditional love, lived in the divine. For men, too, the path should be the same. They should spend time in nature, lose themselves in deep meditation and bring out that grace and gentleness which normally belong to women.
We must all remember the ancient wisdom of natural cycles.
❀ How? For example, through a simple meditation technique in nature:
⁃ take slow walks barefoot without your mobile phone, identify with a natural element (feel like a tree, or a leaf, or a flower, or a bird…) and observe it
⁃ feeling present in the season you are experiencing and observing its changes
⁃ with your eyes closed, synchronising your breath and heartbeat with the sounds of nature
⁃ smiling and expressing sincere gratitude for being part of this
⁃ search within yourself for a word that conveys positive energy and describes the moment you are experiencing
⁃ write down the feelings that arise in your diary
⁃ practice silence
❀ By dancing and playing sacred rhythms, feminine energy can flourish once more, recalling a time when Gaia, Mother Earth, was honoured and respected as an example of balance and harmony.
